  • dull steady pain or pressure in the front, back, or in a band-like area around the head that increases gradually
  • throbbing pain, that may be accompanied by nausea or vomiting
  • change in vision or spots before the eyes, dizziness, or tingling (migraine headaches)


  • take acetaminophen or ibuprofen to relieve discomfort
  • apply ice pack or warm cloth (whichever is more comfortable) to the back of neck
  • rest in darkened room
  • relaxation techniques or massage
  • rest eyes if caused by eyestrain
  • eat a nutritious snack if headache caused by hunger
